Calyx Research

The last one and a half month in Sydney I have been working with Bob and Irma from Calyx. They are providing services around the open-source library software Koha.

One of my jobs while working there was to get accustomed with Koha and its ecosystem. That was a lot harder than I expected because it is a really big and diverse project. On the other hand I got introduced to a very nice community.

The main part of my work for Calyx was doing research for digital repositories. This had the concrete results of installation instructions for Gentoo for Koha and Kete and a Gentoo overlay that helps with installing theses applications. Furthermore other projects were investigated and installed in a test environment that can now be used to compare these projects side by side. Additionally a recommendation for certain software was given depending on use-case scenarios.

While this work was highly interesting and I really enjoyed working together with Bob, Irma and all the other people they introduced me to, I specially have to thank them for their hospitality, generosity and trust they put into me for this project. I got a lot more out of this arrangement than I could have dreamed off. :)

Heimfahrt

Die Rückreise verlief wesentlich schneller als meine Anreise. Mit einer Flugzeit von 21h, einem Aufenthalt von 2,5h in Abu Dhabi, einer Zugfahrt von 5h von Frankfurt nach Meitingen, einer Busfahrt von 20min nach Wertingen und per Anhalter innerhalb von 10min nach Hause also insgesamt weniger als 30h steht es in einem Verhältnis von 1:63 zu meiner Anreise nach Sydney.

Hier sieht man die Decke in der Wartehalle des Flughafen von Abu Dhabi.

Und hier sehe ich endlich wieder Schnee.
